Toast under the table

Good Morning!

Meet my family: Toast Man (20something), Toast Girl (2), Toast Boy (Less than 1), and myself- Toast Mom. We live in Kanata, a suburb of Ottawa and we love to eat breakfast. Before my daughter was born, 2 years ago, we read an article somewhere which spoke of  a family that went out to eat together once a week no matter what. Toast Man and I loved this idea and vowed to do the same. We are not rich, so we chose the cheapest meal of the day: Breakfast. We fell in love with breakfast and our weekend ritual during that pregnancy and my kids attended their first breakfasts when they were just days old. At first we went to the same place week after week: Broadway's Bar and Grill in Kanata. The restaurant just closed down recently, but the staff knew us and our kids. Eventually we started trying new places and we became somewhat of a pack of breakfast snobs. Our 2 year old can order her own breakfast all by herself and we chuckle each time she pipes up with her order. We love to try new places, but with a 2 year old and a 6 month old, we certainly appreciate places that offer excellent service and of course great food. We decided this past weekend (during breakfast, of course!) to start blogging about it. This could be an excellent resource for people with kids who want to get a great meal somewhere that is kid-friendly.

The name 'Toast under the table' refers to an incident recently while we were out for breakfast. My daughter slipped under the table, as she often does, and we let her play quietly down there for a while. Then she called up in her little voice "More toast please!". We hadn't been served yet...
(Thanks to Carrie Anne Grover for coming up with such a perfect name for our new blog!)
